A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)

Having watched this 2003 Korean flick I think I must watch it again now that (I think) I know what is going on, since all of my assumptions while watching the film were turned on their heads by the end.  Strangely eerie and genuinely scary in places without resorting to Hollywood "boo" tactics, it left me feeling unsettled and just a little confused.  That second viewing might feel like a different movie.

Open Range (2003)

At long last a more than watchable film from Mr The Great I Am - Kevin Costner.(I'm told that he truly believes that "The Postman" will be rediscovered in due course as one of the much maligned great films).  Ha!

But to return to the subject at hand he generously shares his screen time with a very watchable Robert Duvall and an elegant Annette Bening who is not afraid to play her age -- very refreshing that.

While it would have fitted well into 90 minutes rather than a relaxed 135 which did produce some longueurs, it was not hard-going.  Lovingly photographed and staged --the composition showed an artist's eye which I never suspected Mr Costner to possess. Finally it was great to see a meaty part for the lovely character actor Michael Jeter who is unfortunately no longer available.
